Advanced Makeup at The Session School

The Session School’s Advanced Makeup Course is ideal for students who have already completed basic makeup training and who want to specialise in makeup for fashion, beauty and advertising. Working in small groups, students study advanced creative and high end fashion techniques, and are encouraged to develop their creative potential.

Please note: students are expected to bring their own makeup kits and professional brushes. (Makeup kits are available to purchase through The Session School). We also advise students to bring a sketchbook/ideas book with research images from books, magazines, history, art and catwalk shows to use as inspiration during the course. We ask that all applicants provide proof of previous experience.

On completion of the Advanced Makeup Course, you will be fully qualified to:

  • Further a career in the freelance fashion, advertising and celebrity industries
  • Work as part of a backstage catwalk team
  • Undertake editorial (magazine/newspaper) work
  • Work with makeup companies
  • Assist established makeup artists

The Advanced Makeup Course includes:

  • 5 days of expert training in small groups
  • A full day photographic shoot with a professional photographer and models
  • Digital images for use in your portfolio
  • A list of industry contacts
  • BABTAC accredited certificate (£11)
  • Use of all materials and makeup at The Session School for the duration of the course

  • Blocking out and reshaping eyebrows
  • Reshaping lips
  • Contouring and highlighting
  • Transferring period looks to modern day

Catwalk Makeup Catwalk Part One

  • Exploring colour for eyes, lips and face
  • Colour analysis
  • Creating texture with colour
  • Research for catwalk makeup designs
  • Designing Avant Garde looks

Catwalk Makeup Catwalk Part Two

  • Stencils/pigments
  • Using found objects such as gemstones/feathers
  • Creating drawings on the skin
  • Making your own false eyelashes
  • Designing two looks for a photographic shoot

Portfolio Building Final Photo Shoot

  • Creating two looks for your final photo shoot
  • Working with a professional model and photographer
